Magion

Information

Magion is a simple, geometrically constructed typeface with a wide range of applications. In this rectangular typeface, the closed forms of the uppercase letters contrast with the wide-open lowercase letters. In contrast, occasional hints of detail—in the form of wedge-shaped connections to the stems—lend the overall appearance a distinctive character. The extremely tall lowercase letters and shortened ascenders and descenders meet the highest demands for compact typesetting. Although this typeface is designed as a display font, it also includes the necessary elements of a text alphabet, primarily basic ligatures and fractions, as well as mathematical symbols. The typeface’s straightforward character and the absence of graded weights encourage a bold approach to typography.

Magion is the name of a series of small satellites Earth designed to study the parameters of the MAGnetic field, the IONosphere, and the plasma surrounding Earth. These satellites were part of the physical research conducted under the Czechoslovak space program. They were developed by staff at the Geophysical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (since 1994, both the staff and the program have been transferred to the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences) and have been launched alongside satellites as part of the international Interkosmos program since 1978.
