Respekt is a Czech weekly news magazine published in Prague that focuses on domestic and international politics, economics, science, and culture. It was founded shortly after the fall of Communist rule in 1989 by a group of former samizdat journalists, becoming one of the first independent magazines in the Czech Republic after the end of the communist regime.

The transition from a newspaper-style layout to a magazine format required a complete typographic redesign. On this occasion, a distinctive display typeface was created, featuring narrow proportions and characteristic rectangular serifs.
