Bio Oko

Client: Aerofilms
Realization: 2017

Bio Oko is a single-screen cinema dedicated to alternative and art-house productions. Located in Prague’s Holešovice district within a block of functionalist apartment buildings, it opened in 1940.

Its visual identity is based on a set of three all-caps typefaces. The initial inspiration for this typographic system came from the extremely condensed fonts traditionally used for credit blocks at the bottom of blockbuster movie posters. The combination of the individual styles makes it possible to structure information without relying on color or changes in size. Thinned diacritics allow for exceptionally tight line spacing. This typeface system later became the foundation for the extensive Lipo family.
