Most questions have a straightforward answer. We’ve collected the ones we hear most often, from choosing the right license to technical details and custom typeface projects. If your question falls outside the usual categories, get in touch.
01. Before You Buy
Can I try the fonts before purchasing?
Trial versions of each font are available in OpenType (.otf) and Web (.woff2) formats, so you can try them out in your own work before purchasing a license.

What’s included in the trial fonts?
Basic Trial fonts include uppercase and lowercase letters, numerals and basic punctuation. They don’t include OpenType features or alternate glyphs.
For more comprehensive testing, Full Trial fonts are available in the customer account. They include the complete character set, multilingual support, alternate glyphs and OpenType features.

Can I use trial fonts for commercial work?
Trial fonts are intended for evaluation before purchasing a license. They can be used for testing layouts, comparing typefaces and presenting concepts.

Can I purchase additional licenses later?
If your needs exceed the scope of your current license, purchase additional licenses. You may need more Desktop Licenses as your team grows, or additional Web License coverage as your website attracts more monthly unique visitors. Projects have a habit of growing.
Are updates included?
Technical updates to purchased fonts are included at no additional cost. New styles and new typeface families are separate releases.
How are variable fonts licensed?
Variable formats, if available for specific typefaces, are licensed as complete typeface families. Availability is listed on each typeface page.

Do you offer student discounts?
We don’t offer student discounts. Instead, students can download Full Trial fonts through their customer account.

Can I purchase fonts on behalf of my client?
Certainly. The important part is deciding who the License Holder should be. You can easily enter a different licensing address during checkout.
If the fonts are intended for your client’s long-term use, the license should usually be issued in the client’s name. If you’re purchasing fonts for your own studio, the license should be issued to your studio.

Which license do I need?
A short description of your project is usually enough for us to identify the appropriate license. If your use falls outside the standard license types, a custom agreement may be more suitable. We’ll point you in the right direction.
How do I purchase fonts?
Very simply. Click Buy fonts. If the complete family isn’t already displayed, use Select Font in the top-right corner to choose the typeface you’re interested in. Add the whole family or individual styles to your cart, select the required license for each item, then continue to checkout.
02. Licensing
What is a font license?
A font license gives you permission to use the fonts in a specific way. The license you need depends on how the fonts will be used, not on what you’re designing.
Most projects require a Desktop License, Web License or App License. Additional extensions cover uses such as ePub, server automation, trademarks, broadcasting or unlimited use.

A Desktop License covers fonts installed on computers to create static work such as logos, books, packaging, presentations, PDFs and social media graphics.
A Web License covers fonts embedded on websites and is licensed according to monthly unique visitors.

Most projects are fully covered by a standard Desktop, Web or App License. Some specific uses require an additional License Extension. Most projects never need one.

How many computers does a Desktop License cover?
A Desktop License is licensed per computer. Install the fonts on as many computers as your license covers.
Can a Desktop License cover computers at different geographic locations?
A Desktop License may cover computers at different offices, studios or geographic addresses. What matters is that every computer is used by the License Holder or its authorized Users and is included in the total number of licensed computers.

Can I use the fonts in a logo?
Our fonts are perfect for logos. Creating logotypes and visual identities is covered by the Desktop License.

A Trademark License Extension becomes relevant when the fonts themselves are the principal identifying asset of a trademark intended for registration or already registered, an exclusive visual identity system or a large-scale global branding environment.

Can multiple designers share one license?
Multiple designers can use the fonts provided every computer on which they are installed is covered by the Desktop License. Purchase additional Desktop Licenses when more computers need access. What matters is the number of licensed computers, not where the designers sit.
Can external contractors use the fonts?
External contractors can use their own appropriate Desktop License. Alternatively, they may work under the License Holder’s license, provided every computer on which the fonts are installed is included in the number of Desktop Licenses purchased by the License Holder.
When the License Holder supplies the fonts, access must be limited to the commissioned project and its duration, and the contractor must delete the files afterwards unless they hold their own license. An Unlimited License is available for broader or continuing access. Freelance status does not make a computer invisible.

Can I install the fonts on a server?
A standard Desktop License permits reasonable backup copies and secure cloud-based collaboration within the licensed scope, but it does not permit server deployment.

Can I install the fonts on a NAS?
A NAS may be used to store reasonable backup copies of the fonts. Each computer on which the fonts are installed or used must still be covered by the Desktop License.

Can I install the fonts on both Mac and Windows?
The operating system doesn’t matter. The number of licensed computers does. The fonts won’t notice the difference.
Can I embed fonts in a PDF?
Embedding fonts in PDFs is covered by the Desktop License, provided the document is distributed as a static, non-editable output. Otherwise exchanging print-ready artwork would be unnecessarily complicated.
Can I embed fonts in an eBook?
Embedding fonts in an eBook or other reflowable electronic publication requires an ePub License Extension. A static PDF is covered by the Desktop License.
Can I use the fonts in presentations?
Presentations are covered by the Desktop License, whether they are shown on screen, projected or distributed as static PDF files.
Can I use the fonts for social media graphics?
Static graphics for social media are covered by the Desktop License. Live or editable use of fonts inside a platform or application may require a different license.
Can I use the fonts in videos?
Moving-image use requires a Broadcast License Extension in addition to the Desktop License. It covers television, film, streaming productions, advertisements, trailers, title sequences, motion graphics, social media videos, presentations rendered as video, digital signage and live graphics.

A Broadcast License Extension is required whenever the fonts are used to create Audiovisual Content, including television programs, films, streaming productions, advertisements, trailers, title sequences, social media videos, presentations rendered as video, digital signage and comparable moving-image media.
It permits unlimited audiovisual productions and worldwide distribution. Font files may also be supplied temporarily to Production Vendors working on the licensed productions, provided their access is limited to the commissioned work and the files are deleted afterwards.

Can I use the fonts in games, AR or VR projects?
Embedding fonts in games, AR or VR experiences, interactive installations or other software requires an App License. The license is based on the application in which the fonts are embedded, not on how futuristic the interface looks.

A Server License Extension is required when the fonts are installed, stored or accessed in a server-based or cloud-based production environment to generate static, non-editable outputs automatically.

Can I use the fonts with AI?
That depends on how the fonts are being used.
Using fonts to create artwork with AI-assisted design tools is generally covered by the appropriate license. Using the fonts themselves to train, improve or develop AI systems isn’t permitted.

What happens if my website exceeds the licensed traffic?
Purchase additional Web License coverage for the higher traffic level. The visitor allowances of separate Web Licenses are cumulative, so they are added together. It’s one of the nicer licensing problems to have.
Can I transfer a license to another company?
Company names change. Licences prefer to know who owns them. Standard Font Licenses are non-transferable unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Internal transfers resulting from a merger, acquisition or corporate restructuring may be permitted after written notification to Suitcase Type. A Trademark License Extension may be transferred together with the applicable trademark as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the relevant business, subject to its terms.

What happens if my company changes its name?
A change of company name does not by itself change the License Holder. If the legal entity changes as well, contact us so the licensing position can be reviewed.
Do licenses expire?
Suitcase licenses are perpetual unless the applicable agreement states otherwise. They remain valid while the License Holder complies with the EULA and may be terminated only in the event of a material breach.
What if my project doesn’t fit any of the standard license types?
Most projects fit within the standard licenses and extensions. For uses that do not, custom license agreements are available, just let us know.
Can I modify the fonts?
Converting text to outlines and generating static instances from licensed variable fonts are permitted for uses covered by the applicable license.

03. Technical Questions
Which font formats are included?
Desktop fonts are supplied in OpenType (.otf) format. Web Licenses include WOFF2 files. We know that TTF or WOFF files are needed for specific situations. If you absolutely need them, please let us know.

What’s the difference between OTF and TTF?
Both formats work in modern operating systems and design applications. TTF files use TrueType outlines, while OTF files commonly use PostScript-based outlines. Both can support OpenType features, so the difference is mainly technical rather than a measure of quality. In day-to-day use, you’ll probably notice the typeface long before the file format.
What is a variable font?
A variable font combines a range of styles in a single font file. Supported applications let you adjust axes such as weight or width continuously instead of switching between separate static styles.

Do all your typefaces include variable fonts?
No. Some typefaces have a complex internal structure, and using a variable font format would be complicated. Variable fonts are available for selected typefaces and are identified on the corresponding typeface page.
Which languages do your typefaces support?
Some typefaces include extended Latin with full Vietnamese support, extended Cyrillic, and Greek. Others offer a broad Latin character set, basic Cyrillic, and Greek. All of them, however, provide the characters required to typeset the vast majority of Latin-script languages. The supported writing systems, languages and complete character set are listed on each typeface page.
How can I see which characters a font contains?
Each typeface page includes its complete character set, just look at the bottom. This is the most reliable place to check language support, symbols, figures and alternate glyphs before purchasing.
Do your fonts support OpenType features?
Most Suitcase typefaces include OpenType features. The available features vary by family and are listed on the relevant typeface page.
Why aren’t OpenType features working?
The fonts are usually innocent. Applications occasionally have personalities of their own, so OpenType support depends on the specific application. Some offers a full range of features, while others support only a limited selection or place the controls somewhere unexpected.
Do your fonts work in Microsoft Office?
OpenType fonts work in current versions of Microsoft Office. Support for advanced OpenType features varies by application, operating system and software version.
Can I use your fonts in Figma?
Suitcase fonts can be used in Figma once they are installed locally or made available through the font service used by your organization. Support for individual OpenType features depends on the current Figma environment.
Can I use your fonts in Canva?
Canva can use custom fonts on plans that include font uploading. The available typographic controls and OpenType support are determined by Canva.
04. Custom Typefaces
What is a custom typeface?
A custom typeface is designed specifically for an organization, brand or project. Its visual character, number of styles, character set, language support, technical requirements and licensing model are developed around the intended use.
How much does a custom typeface cost?
This is a very common question, but there is no fixed price. The cost depends on the number of styles, character set, language support, technical requirements, intended use and licensing terms. Once the scope is clear, we prepare a quotation.
How long does a custom typeface project take?
The timeline depends on the complexity of the project. A small modification may take a few days; a new family with multiple styles and extensive language support is usually measured in months rather than weeks. Good typefaces don’t like being rushed.
Can you modify one of your existing typefaces?
Quite a few custom projects started exactly that way – with a Suitcase retail typeface that is adjusted, extended or technically adapted for a specific use.
Can you add additional weights or language support?
Additional weights, widths, optical sizes, alternate characters, language extensions and new writing systems can all form part of a custom project. The possibilities depend on the existing typeface and the project requirements.
Can you create a custom logotype?
Some projects require only a wordmark or logotype; others develop into complete interconnected typeface systems. The process begins with understanding how the typography should represent the organization or brand.

Custom typefaces are developed under agreements tailored to the project. Exclusivity, ownership, licensing scope, authorized users, territories and future development are defined individually.

A brief description of the organization or project is enough to begin. Information about intended use, languages, approximate number of styles, timing and whether an existing typeface is being considered helps define the scope. The remaining details can be worked out together.
05. Purchasing & Account
Which payment methods do you accept?
You can pay by credit or debit card, Apple Pay, PayPal or bank transfer. Orders paid by card, Apple Pay or PayPal are normally released for download after checkout. For bank transfers, the fonts become available once the payment has reached our account.
Where can I download my fonts?
Purchased fonts remain available through your customer account, together with applicable technical updates.
Can I download my fonts again later?
Your previous purchases can be downloaded again from your customer account.
I purchased the wrong license. What should I do?
Contact us before using the fonts and describe the intended use. We will confirm which license is required and how the purchase should be corrected.

As mentioned above, orders paid by card, Apple Pay or PayPal are normally available after checkout. Bank transfer orders can be released only after the payment has reached our account.
Can I access my previous purchases?
Your customer account contains your previous purchases, downloads and the corresponding license information.
How do I update my account details?
Account details can be updated through your customer account. For changes affecting an existing invoice, license holder or license record, contact us.
06. About Suitcase
Do you offer internships?
Unfortunately, we don’t.
Suitcase is a small independent type foundry with a very hands-on way of working. Most parts of the process — from design and production to licensing and communication — are closely connected, so we aren’t currently able to offer internships.

I’m a type designer. Can I submit my fonts to Suitcase?
You’re welcome to ask, but the answer will usually be no.
Every typeface published by Suitcase begins with a clear reason why it should exist and why it belongs in the collection. Since Suitcase is an author-driven foundry, we don’t generally publish fonts designed by other authors.

Can I visit Suitcase Type Foundry?
Suitcase is a small working studio rather than a public showroom. Most meetings take place online, but if you’re visiting Prague or would simply like to stop by, feel free to get in touch. We can’t promise coffee, but we’ll do our best.
Where can I buy your printed specimens?
Printed specimens aren’t available for purchase.
