Yolo™ Collection

Yolo™ is a geometric type system that combines technical precision with an unexpectedly warm and approachable expression. Built from a disciplined modular structure, it ranges from a neutral workhorse to expressive display styles while preserving a remarkably consistent visual language. Rather than expanding a single design into multiple weights alone, the collection develops into four specialised subfamilies. Each shares the same geometric foundation while responding to different typographic situations.

The standard Yolo style includes everything you would expect from a dependable, all-purpose typeface: balanced proportions, a calm vertical rhythm, and consistently finished stroke terminals.

The numerals feature an open design with nearly uniform proportions, yet remain highly distinguishable even under less-than-ideal viewing conditions. The character set includes proportional, tabular, fractional, and superscript figures.

The universal validity of neo-grotesque predestines this typeface as a reliable workhorse for complete typographic work. The meticulous drawing in detail, the exact spacing, and the multitude of character alternatives, on the one hand, make Yolo a timeless tool for creating logotypes.

The Display style is defined by auxiliary horizontal serifs that take on a decorative role. At the same time, the reduced left-hand crossbars of the f and t, characteristic of display typefaces, allow for a tighter typographic rhythm. The dot is square.

Every upright style has a corresponding italic counterpart. Since these are not humanist italics and retain the same underlying letterforms, the italics are set at a relatively pronounced 12-degree angle.

At the same time, its extensive range of weights and italics is dedicated to composing entire identities. OpenType functions include several types of numerals, case-sensitive punctuation, or even arrow alternation. The character set offers a variety of symbols and shapes to enrich the raw typesetting, from useful currency symbols to gigantic quotation marks.

Yolo Body is intended for medium-length reading. Its serifs improve character recognition at smaller sizes, while slightly narrower proportions and more generous spacing enhance readability.

Limited edition printed specimen

Every extensive type system deserves a printed document. Yolo is accompanied by a limited-edition specimen that explores the family in depth through typography, colour and experimental layouts.

Because we prefer not to waste paper, the 72-page specimen, measuring 230 ✕ 287 mm, printed in offset with spot colors on Munken Polar Rough and bound in an exposed V4, stitch with white thread, is produced in an ultra-limited edition of just 100 copies.

The specimen is not available for sale. However, while supplies last, fifty copies are reserved for customers who purchase any type family from the Yolo collection and are available upon request.

Customizing Yolo

The coherent structure of the Yolo type system makes it an ideal foundation for custom typeface development. Because all styles were designed as parts of a single interconnected system, modifications can be introduced consistently across the entire family. Its robust monolinear construction allows proportions to be adjusted, weights refined, italic angles modified, and selected glyphs further customized, while preserving the overall character of the typeface.

Even before its public release, pre-production versions of Yolo had already served as the basis for several custom typeface projects, confirming the flexibility of the system in real-world applications.

This approach makes it possible to create a distinctive corporate typeface in a fraction of the time required for designing a family from scratch.

In development: Yolo Web 1.0

Last but not least, there is Yolo Web. These very website pages are built on a dedicated version of the typeface, carefully optimized to deliver the best possible performance on screens and displays. Its proportions are slightly narrower than those of the Text style, the distinctive uppercase Y has been replaced with a more conventional form, and alongside enlarged versions of selected dingbats, the font includes a comprehensive set of interface symbols required for navigation and interaction. The result is a typeface that preserves the character of the Yolo family while behaving naturally in a digital environment.
